Principled leaders create more progress for society than any other group. Unprincipled leaders do the most harm. Many of the best leaders are not rich or famous. They are regular individuals who go about their work.
The study of history shows that a few committed individuals can cause lasting change. We believe that every student has within her the seeds of principled leadership. If those seeds are cultivated carefully, they will grow, and she will make the world a better place.
The spine of our curriculum is the leadership program. We believe leadership means three things: 1) making and keeping commitments; 2) learning to manage time, tasks and energy; and 3) developing and nurturing healthy relationships. These things are simple to understand, but hard to do, so we help students develop their leadership through a sequence of proprietary leadership courses, whose central purpose is to help students accomplish these three objectives. These courses also help students prepare for college and develop healthy and effective relationships with money.
At the “end” of each school year, all students are enrolled in a 3-week Leadership Block Course that extends beyond the last day of other classes. This is the capstone leadership course and includes teaching humanitarian service.
To graduate, students are required to complete three credits (six semester-long courses) of leadership. As they complete these courses, they nurture their passion and clarify what they need to do to have meaningful lives.
