Pre-Semester Checklist

Welcome to Leadership Academy of Nevada!

We’re so glad you’re here! We want you to have a smooth start, so we’ve created this New Student Checklist to help you work through any potential glitches before you start your coursework. The most common issues are students not having their computers set up right, not having the books on hand, having some kind of a technology glitch, or being unclear about Student and Parent Orientations. This checklist is designed to help your family prepare to hit the ground running. If you get stuck on a task, email admin@lanv.org or call the office at 702-350-1472 and ask for help.

LANV Pre-Semester Checklist

 Pre-Semester Checklist Tasks
1.Log-in to SIS: If your child doesn't already have an SIS login, help them create one. You will be asked to provide your child's email address, which must be different than your own. Within 15 minutes of you registering your child for classes, SIS will create a "Canvas" account for your child where they will access course syllabi, assignments, etc. The new Canvas login will be the same as your child's SIS login.

You'll want to bookmark this link. You’ll use it to verify your student’s schedule, check on grades, and communicate with mentors. You’ll find a link to SIS on the top right corner of the homepage of our website.
2.Books/Supplies: The booklists have been finalized as of June 15, 2017. Click here to access the high school booklist and here to access the middle school booklist.

If you are a returning student, and you would like LANV to order your books and ship them directly to you, please complete this 2017 Fall Book Order Form. If you have multiple students attending LANV, you will need to complete this form for each student.

If you are a new LANV student, we will automatically order the books for you. If you live in the Las Vegas area, they will be ready for you to pick up at the office at Check-in. If you live outside of the Las Vegas area and are checking in online, we will make contact with you to mail them directly.

Many parents prefer to order their own books and submit receipts for reimbursement. This provides parents the option to order audio books, e-books, and/or use books they already own. Books may be reimbursed for up to the maximum amount provided on the booklist. If you choose to order your own books and submit your receipts for reimbursements, please review our Book Reimbursement Policy, complete this Book Reimbursement Request Form, and submit your receipts to the office

Life of Fred math textbooks will be provided for each student in LIVE middle school math, pre-algebra, or pre-calculus. These are LANV property and are expected to be returned within 10 days of withdrawal or year-end in the same condition it is received. Damaged textbooks may be assessed for a fee. Textbooks that are not returned will be considered stolen; fees will be assessed, and student records will be held until the student account is resolved.

We have access to science kits which include the essential supplies required for all high school science classes. If you would like to request a science kit, complete this Science Kit Request Form. A science kit will be available for pickup at the LANV office if you live in the Las Vegas area, or it will be shipped directly to you if you live elsewhere in the state. During Winter Semester, a Dissection Kit will be distributed to all Biology students as required by the Biology Mentor.
3.Tech Check: Go to the Technology Requirements & Support page and

  • read “Computer and Software Requirements” together. Be sure you have a computer that will work, and the required software programs

  • read “How to Setup and Test Blackboard Collaborate On Your Computer” together. Follow all of the steps. If you hit a snag setting up Blackboard Collaborate, read “Having Trouble With Collaborate?” or “Mac Users–Help With Collaborate”

  • read “When Blackboard Collaborate Goes Down, Log In To Zoom” and follow the steps

  • read “Technical Support for Canvas and SIS” together. Students, be sure you can log in and see your courses in both Canvas and SIS.

If you need to borrow a computer, let us know by requesting one using the Computer Request Form. Tiffany Kingsbury will contact you directly regarding the LANV Laptop Loan Agreement and the LANV Laptop Handbook. If you live in Las Vegas and surrounding areas, you can pick up the laptop at your student’s in-person Orientation session. If you live outside of Las Vegas, she’ll make arrangements to ship the laptop to you.
4.Log-in to Canvas: Students, log in to Canvas and customize your Course menu. Here’s a screencast that shows you how. (You should see your course title showing under “Courses” in Canvas within 15 minutes of creating your SIS login. If you don’t, contact support@williamsburglearning.com). Please note that the username and password for your students' SIS account is the same username and password for their Canvas account.

You'll want to bookmark this link as well. You’re going to use it so often, it might just become a friend! Canvas is our Learning Management System and is where you will find all of the courses, assignments, links for classes, feedback on grades, and so much more. You’ll find a link to Canvas on the top right corner of the home page of our website. The username & password for Canvas is initially the same as SIS, although you may make them different if you choose.
